STATS OF THE WEEK: Georgia Still on My Mind

1) Georgia is the state with the best business climate, according to the November issue of Site Selection magazine. The ranking is based 50 percent on a survey of corporate site selectors and 50 percent on a set of criteria including the states’ competitiveness rank, qualified projects year to date and on a per-capita basis, and state tax burdens on new and mature firms as compiled by the Tax Foundation and KPMG Location Matters analysis.

2) Georgia’s capital city scored a perfect 100 in the Municipal Equality Index. “It’s the first city in the Deep South to have done so. That’s a really remarkable achievement,” said Cathryn Oakley of the Human Rights Campaign, which authored the report.

3) Georgia State University leads the nation in the effort to dramatically increase graduation rates. The Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, which represents 219 public research institutions and other organizations, bestowed the inaugural Most Visible Progress Trailblazer Award on GSU for its “exceptional progress with increasing retention toward or completion of a bachelor’s degree during the last three years.”
